BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT’S CONSCIENCE WAVES AND PARANOIA!
Yeah, the headline doesn’t make any sense, but do you fucking care? The point is that BlackWater HolyLight are playing the Desertfest. Got that? What more could you ever possibly need to know
The Portland, Oregon, four-piece did the world a favour last year and released their self-titled debut album through RidingEasy Records, collecting psychedelic washes and drifty, dreamy melodies together for an ethereal brew of hypnotic potency. Was it mushrooms? Was it brutalist architecture? Was it riffs?
Okay, yes, it was riffs. But it was more than that too.
Remember how you felt the first time you heard Witch? Well if you listened to ‘Wave of Conscience’ or the even-further-gone ‘Slow Hole’ and didn’t get that same feeling, go back and do it again because you did it wrong the first time. BlackWater HolyLight brought doom, heavy psych, grunge, stoner jams and volume-devouring dynamism together across eight brilliant-as-the-sun tracks, and if you have any idea at all what’s good for you, you’ll be there to catch them when they come to Camden Town.
Whatever style you want to tag them with, it’s where their sound takes you that’s so much more important, and with BlackWater HolyLight, the only place to go is anywhere.
